Is There Such a Thing As “Indigo Children?”

Starting mainly from the late 1970s, there was a new type of children being born referred to as “Indigo children.” No, this isn’t something you will find in standard medical journals. The discovery  and existence of Indigo children began to explode into popularity after the work of Parapsychologist Nancy Ann Tappe and later through the work, research and literature of Jan Tober and Lee Carroll. Indigo children are described to be somewhat more evolved and here for a purpose. It is believed, by the philosophical, to be an organic evolutionary response to a world that has been hijacked and enslaved to a purposeless, capitalistic and spiritually dead existence.  Indigo children are gifted and somewhat enlightened, and are described as people here to help humanity move to a higher vibration. Many children born in the late 70s to present with specific traits have been analyzed and characterized as Indigo children because of several character distinctions.  Many other children with differing special characteristics born in the 2000s and beyond are referred to as Crystal, and Rainbow children. There are die-hard believers in this phenomena, but is this real?

Indigo children are described to be special, usually gifted or talented, highly intelligent human beings born destined to go against the grain. They are very often misunderstood, but are old souls destined to change the course of humanity.

The first small wave of “Indigo scout” births came about post WWII, among the baby boomers which many feel led to what is commonly referred to as Hippies and “The Flower Children.”  Indigo scouts are said to have been born to begin the change of consciousness and pave the way. Finally, in the late 1970s a wave of Indigo children were being born. The Indigo infiltration was said to go on throughout the ’90s. Now as elders in society, Indigo scouts are still a very integral part of this social evolution as they serve as guides and respected support for Indigo children. And Indigo, many of whom are now adults in their 30s have a responsibility to society and the generations to come.

 Change On Its Way

Many people have flocked to the concept of Indigo children and are aware of a societal shift in consciousness. However, and as expected, it isn’t actually “real” to most. People are preconditioned to doubt, denounce or refute anything beyond their understanding due to deep-rooted psychological institutionalization. Anything new that attempts to kick in the back door of familiarity and social awareness makes people subconsciously uncomfortable. Consequently, many things misunderstood or seemingly extraordinary get ruled out as ridiculous or implausible. The conscious mind obstinately prevents discourse in this direction.  Regardless, there is wave already here and it’s growing.

No matter what people believe, something definitely seems to be happening. All across the world more and more children are showing signs of depression with an inability to adjust to the way things are. Also, there seems to be retaliatory, ominous energies desperately trying to push against this shift in consciousness.  More and more children are being diagnosed with ADD, OCD, Bipolar disorder and several other developmental disabilities with the medical field suggesting that more drugs are needed. Globally there is growing dissension with government and politics. Race, gender and sexual preference wars are on the rise. Poverty and mindless materialism are growing side by side. There is a growing confusion, androgyny,  and an erosion of traditional values. In this heightened climate there may be an evolutionary response as believed by many factions.  Regardless, the existence of the Indigo is not only appearing more feasible, but it’s also becoming an increasingly welcomed concept because of the times.

According to experts on the subject, Indigo children differ in their approach to life. Some Indigo seem wise beyond their years and do amazing things at young ages. Others do nothing at all but struggle with life quietly and privately. Regardless, most Indigo share a feeling of purpose and responsibility to society at large. Below are typical characteristics of Indigo children.

Who Are the Indigo: Indigo Characteristics

Indigo children’s

Most Indigo share most (not some) of the traits listed below.

  • Birth Chart

According to compiled para-psychological research, there were Indigo who came before referred to as Indigo scouts, and then some who straggled in after the major surge. The more significant surge of Indigo births happened in the late 70s and 80s.  This has also been corroborated with astrological reasoning.

  • High Intellect

Indigo children and adults are typically highly intelligent with high IQ’s.  Many of them are gifted children, but they do not necessarily perform well in school.  Some do excel in school, though many remain introverted or hide how intelligent they actually are.  They bore easily and may choose to hide behind humor, become introverted, or find ways and identities to deal with existing among a largely uninspired environment.

  • Creative Talent

Many Indigo children possess talent in writing, music or the arts and enjoy creating and making things. Indigo are tapped into a frequency of sorts and many Indigo children publicly or privately manifest advanced creative talent.

  • Feeling “Alien”

Whether outwardly or quietly, Indigo are typically loners who struggle with feeling different or unable to fit into their surroundings. They are usually very well liked by most, so many navigate through life pretending to be adjusted.  Privately however, Indigo children struggle with feeling like they don’t belong.

  • Sightly Countenance

According to many sites, Indigo children are described to be typically beautiful or even androgynous. Many are said to have powerful passionate eyes. Because of their powerful eyes and stares, many are known to avoid eye contact.

  • Aversion to Authority

Indigo children typically loathe authority. Indigo are meant to break the mold of old meaningless institutions. Appointed authority figures often represent those institutions. Indigo children typically detest homework and refuse to do many things they feel they are above. Indigo always question rules and are rebels who either rebel very quietly and stubbornly, or very vocally and defiantly.

  • Intuition or Psychic Ability

Indigo children typically have strong intuition, or telepathic or psychic ability. They have old souls and possess a quiet wisdom beyond their years. Indigo can learn to develop these abilities. Unfortunately however, many lose or greatly diminish these abilities in adulthood after years of suppression, depression, drugs, or trying to fit in to social norms.

  • Occasional Impatience

Many Indigo children have trouble doing things like waiting in lines or dealing with perceived stupidity. At times you may see signs of frustration, annoyance or impatience with those who are slower to keep up to their level of intellect. Indigo are typically very loving and compassionate, but have a sometimes conspicuous disdain for stupidity, naivete, or ignorance.

Indigo have a wisdom and insight that isn’t always popular or accepted. Many times people can be a step behind what Indigo children already understand. They see through a lot of the lies, institutionalization and common deceptions that plague society. In an age of rampant miseducation in schools, brainwashing, deceptions in the media, misinterpreted religion, mindless materialism, petty racism and a dumbing down of society toward a lower vibration, the Indigo have trouble standing idly by.  Regardless, they have to go along with the social order of things but at times grow impatient and angry at moments and in varying scenarios.

  • Warmth of Personality

Despite their pride, you can usually detect warmth, friendliness and love emanating from Indigo children. They are special and there is an inviting glow and a light that comes from them. Despite what may be perceived as eccentricities or uncommon behavioral traits, Indigo are usually well-liked and their warmth is attractive to others.

  • Hypersensitivity

Indigo children are very emotional and sensitive in nature. They feel emotions to a much higher degree. Consequently, many of them become loners.

Because emotions are so high, many Indigo choose to be by themselves and stay out of relationships. They experience highs and lows and typically take things in harder than most, which leads to the next condition.

  • History of Depression

Depression is, unfortunately, a common thing with Indigo children.  This is a largely because Indigo children have trouble fitting in and adjusting to a spiritually dead, misguided society.  Indigo are born with a higher spiritual awareness and have trouble going through the motions of a mundane, ordinary, and misdirected existence. Indigo possess immense personal power that stirs inside of them that they often cannot tap into or manifest because of the way things are. Indigo have a calling and a job to do which entails moving the vibration of humanity onto the right path. If they are not on that path or if they are ineffective, they will struggle with sometimes severe depression.

Unfortunately, as a result of the Indigo plot in life many Indigo are battling with substance abuse.

  • Sense of Purpose or Entitlement

Indigo prefer leadership positions or working alone.  Unfortunately many are prone to anger.  Most Indigo are very loving and compassionate people. However they possess a sense of mission and purpose.

  • Prone to Attention Deficit Disorder

Indigo children usually have high energy and are commonly diagnosed with ADD and other learning disabilities because they operate on a different level. Many are mistaken to be absent-minded, forgetful and unfocused when the exact opposite is true. They have more of a connection to other dimensions and sensations and can multi-task to a much higher degree. They are thinking about a vast multitude of things most people aren’t. They almost need to divert their attention to several different things at once for stimulation.

  • Aversion to Structure and Systems

Indigo are not meant to simply follow along in line. That isn’t their purpose. They will always question “why”.

Indigo adults can go in one of two directions. Some learn to hone their exceptional gifts into lucrative careers that give them money, social acceptance and parental approval. They eventually  do what they feel is expected of them. These Indigo children begin lives they feel they ought to live for the recognition of their family and friends, but remain privately tortured by their innate calling or purpose. Other Indigo adults never assimilate well into society and dabble with drug abuse, become world travelers or drifters, and never start a stable career or family.

The Indigo Disposition

There are many ways that an Indigo could end up retreating from their calling. The most common way is through the constant discouragement of spiritual things and the numbing into conformity by family, friends and those around them. Not understanding who they are and what they are meant to do leads to many people attempting to get them “back into the herd,” so to speak, and push them toward a life with the a stable job, spouse and children. Sometimes it’s a catch-22 situation. Other parents and friends who are aware of who and what they are do the exact opposite and treat them like supermen and women which may cause them to cower and retreat. Indigo do not believe in special treatment as they are meant to break all of that. The main objective is to pull away from meaningless institutions and toward spiritual awareness and to draw personal power out in everyone.

Indigo or In Denial

So is any of this real? Well, it is to those who can read or detect auras. However, many experts in the medical field feel that many parents are in denial, preferring to consider their children special and gifted as opposed to troubled or possessing disabilities.

To me—I don’t care if it’s true or not. In fact, I support the belief in Indigo, Crystal and Rainbow children as it has it’s societal benefits.

Be it truth or fiction, it’s true that we all could relate to the plight of the Indigo. We all also possess many of the Indigo traits to some degree. The indigo aura and the spiritual characteristics within exist in all of us. People trying to doubt the existence of the Indigo would serve society better discrediting other types of people who exalt themselves for lesser reasons. People put crowns on the heads of celebrities, the rich, and many people who may have done well for themselves financially but aspire to do nothing for things that truly matter. Consequently, the world remains stagnant placing esteem in the spiritually vacant. However, if people believe they or their children are here to save the world, and their hearts and actions are in line with those beliefs, I say more power to them.  If the Indigo truly exist, then obviously the world is better for it. If they do not,  then any one of us can assume the identity and carry the torch at any moment we choose.
