Cosby Prosecutor Pandering to Women and Living a Lie

If you love the familiar lies, pick a different article or blog that makes you feel good. However, if you want the rarely disseminated truth, keep reading. During the first weekend of May 2019, the DA of Montgomery County, Kevin Steele was one of many participants in an annual event to bring awareness to violence against women. The event was the Laurel House Annual Walk-a-Mile in Her Shoes event, an international men’s march against rape, sexual assault and “gender violence”. Showing solidarity with women’s advocacy Steele walked around in red high heel boots. This seems like a noble cause for a politician to take part in—but not when you know the truth about who Kevin Steele is, and what he did. The truth is that Steele’s overzealousness in pandering to this demographic has made him one of the most deplorable politicians in American history, only few people know that—yet.

Steele won his election for DA of Montgomery County in Pennsylvania against Bruce Castor almost solely on the promise to bring down Bill Cosby, and he delivered. Only, he set fire to US Constitution to do it. Almost nothing Steele did in pursuit of Cosby was ethical or in accordance with the law, and the world will find out sooner or later. If you’re among those who figure “well, the end justifies the means”, then you are a part of the societal problem and you need to keep reading.

In 2015 campaigning to be the DA of Montgomery County, Steele put Cosby in his campaign ads and ran on the promise to get a citizen who at the time had not even yet been charged with a crime. That alone should have disqualified him from the election as that was grossly unconstitutional. However, such a #metoo driven hate for Bill Cosby had been fortified in the media for so long that no one cared or noticed that it was unethical. In fact, it’s probably what won him the election. The masses believed every disingenuous word the media peddled about Bill Cosby and did not seem to care how he was reigned in. And so, he won that election and Steele’s unethical hunt for Bill Cosby was in full swing.

Bill Cosby was never supposed to be brought to trial because his accuser, Andrea Constand, had already agreed to take money and drop the case. Regardless, immediately after taking office Steele reneged on the deal Cosby made with the former DA and decided to prosecute Bill Cosby the very day that the statutes of limitations would run out. Cosby already made a deal with Bruce Castor to sit for a now infamous deposition and settle the case with Andrea Constand under the condition he would never be prosecuted. However, like a man possessed, the new DA Kevin Steele continued to bastardize the law and constitutional rights to pursue his campaign promise anyway. He scrapped the Castor deal without legal justification to do so and went after Bill Cosby. Even worse, in addition to having no evidence, none of Cosby’s accusers, including Constand, are even citizen’s of Montgomery County. Regardless, the agreement with the former DA was very clear, but once again, no one stopped him.

    The Cosby Trials

DA Kevin Steel and Judge Steven T. O’Niell

Kevin Steele’s robust assistance to Andrea Constand did not really seem to be about Andrea Constand, justice for women or the validity of her case. In fact, any reasonable person not hypnotized by emotional #metoo rhetoric would realize Andrea Constand’s story was very problematic, inconsistent and she was not telling the truth. She was plagued with lots of inconsistencies and suspicious actions, which is why the first DA, Bruce Castor, dropped the case. Castor did not find Constand someone any juror would find credible, so he felt he was circumspectly serving both parties by getting Cosby to agree to a settlement. At the time, Cosby who maintained his innocence only agreed to the deal because he thought he was paying for the whole thing to be over and gagged. And it was—until Kevin Steele came in and flipped the script.

Kevin Steele had another partner in crime in Judge Steven T. O’Neill. Interestingly enough, O’Niell’s wife is a sexual assault counselor who publicly declared that we should believe women. Because of who his wife was and what she said, Cosby’s defense team tried to get the judge to recuse himself but he refused.

Working together, both Steele and O’Niell were able to circumvent the law primarily because the wind was at their back and the public was against Bill Cosby largely due to the media, not any evidence. It shouldn’t have mattered that popular opinion felt that Bill Cosby assaulted other people at some point. In truth that was all media created hoopla. Even if there was a victim at some other time, Bill Cosby was in court for one specific case. The evidence in the case Steele was pushing proved Cosby most likely did not assault Andrea Constand. There wasn’t even penetration involved in their provably consensual encounter. The facts also prove Constand still continued to see Cosby afterward. Still, both O’Neill and Steele jumped through hoops and committed many unconstitutional atrocities in order to not only prosecute Cosby once, but twice for the same absurd and extremely weak case with Andrea Constand.

The first time they dragged Bill Cosby to trial he got off, but in a mistrial due to Judge O’Neill’s dubious maneuvering. Because of Judge O’Neill’s questionable antics, Cosby was not acquitted as he probably should have been. O’Neill strategically worked over and through the obvious reasonable doubt due to Constand’s litany of inconsistent information, and forced the hand of the jury toward a mistrial. Anytime it was going the way of acquittal or hung-jury, O’Niell forced the jury back into deliberation. And because this judge forced the verdict into a mistrial, Steele was legally able to drag Bill Cosby to court all over again without it being double jeopardy. In the retrial, Judge O’Neill rigged the case again, this time miraculously able to pull off a unanimous guilty verdict, a feat even Cosby detractors once believed impossible. That’s because it was impossible. It was not legally possible to find Bill Cosby guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a case against someone who didn’t have evidence and who changed her story multiple times. With almost no solid evidence against him, Steele achieved his mission in getting Bill Cosby by any means necessary and put him in jail at 81 years-old.

Judge O’Niell is currently and perhaps deliberately holding up the Appeal process for Bill Cosby by refusing to submit his legally mandated 1925(a) Opinion to explain his actions and reasons why justice was carried out.

Ethically speaking, things got even worse; in one of the most nauseating and brazen attempts at conspiracy cover-ups, for all of this Steele was named “trial lawyer of the year” by the Montgomery Bar Association in 2018.

Building a Legacy on a Lie

Now here’s a terrifying thought for a man like Steele; what if the tide changes? What if people start to realize this was a media driven witch-hunt? What if after the #metoo hysteria subsides, people begin to realize Constand was never a genuine victim? What if scores of future law school students study this case and realize everything this man did was against legal protocol, self-serving, and disturbingly unconstitutional? Well, that’s already in fruition. Whether they believe the allegations or not, any honest legal analyst who probes into this case has no choice but to admit what took place is jaw-dropping.

So here we are with Kevin Steele wearing red high heel boots, still pathetically playing to the crowd as a champion for women’s rights issues. As Steele makes his rounds shaking hands, kissing babies and pretending to be a hero, who and what he really is might be irritating him somewhere in the back of his mind.  He might be wondering if the curtains will ever fall because he knows exactly what he did. He spearheaded the modern-day lynching of an 81-year-old African-American icon, because it was a political achievement for him, and as a lawyer he probably knows deep down it should never have happened. Even if he initially believed him guilty, at some point Steele knew first-hand from the evidence that there was no case but decided to exhaust tax-payer money and push for a conviction anyway. Steele knew very well that the media was, and still is dishonest in their coverage of the Bill Cosby trials. Regardless, instead of calling off the dogs, he was an integral part of the madness, and he fed it because it benefited him. And so, backed by the #metoo movement and the misguided emotions of the day, Steele, the media, Judge O’Niell, Constand and all the beneficiaries involved took this all the way and scored a game-winning touch-down on the wrong side of American history.

So, as he continues to position himself as a champion for women’s rights, his real identity is a political opportunist of the worst kind whose biggest claim to fame is cheating and violating human rights. For his many under-handed misdeeds Steele was never caught red-handed, but perhaps one of these days still placating to the women’s advocacy groups he’ll be exposed red-[booted].
